The Young Adult Kouncil (YAK) are a group of 18-29 year olds from the SCNC UCC. Members of YAK are committed to developing community with other young adults of the conference through the development of year round programming, camps, and retreats. The Young Adults of  YAK can choose to be a part of the General Body or the Leadership Team. YAK is made up of a general body of members and a leadership team. General Body members of YAK meet once every other month and are provided a space to check in with other members, get updates about programming, join committees to help plan events, and have fun with their peers. What Do General Body Members Do?

General body members of both YRT and YAK meet once every other month and are provided a space to check in with other members, get updates about our programming, join committees to help plan events if they would like, and just have fun with their peers. The experience of a general body member can differ depending on how you would like to contribute. General body members can meet once every other month to check in and enjoy being in community with their peers, or they can choose to join committees that would meet more often where they would help create programming under the guidance of the leadership team. The general body structure is set up so that members have a lot of choices in how they interact with the group and in a way that allows them to be more or less engaged based on their interests and other time commitments. General body member’s main responsibility is to contribute to the well being of the YRT or YAK community that they are a part of in a healthy and positive way.

What do Members of the Leadership Team Do?

Members of the leadership team are members from YAK, YRT, Adult Advisors, and Ministers. Meetings take place once a month (or more) on top of general body meetings and are provided with an opportunity to engage in and help plan events. Members of the Leadership Team will take on the responsibility of leading general body meetings, heading different planning committees throughout the year, report on progress, and make decisions regarding YAYA. Leadership team members are required to attend most if not all scheduled meetings during the year.

What Do Adult Advisors and Minister Advisors Do?

Adult advisors have the opportunity of volunteering with YRT, YAK, and the leadership team. Adult advisors are expected to attend most (if not all) meetings of whichever group or groups that they’ve committed to being an advisor for. Adult advisors are expected to be strong contributors to a healthy community and aid in the planning, facilitation, and organization of their group’s responsibilities. Adult advisors are expected to raise the voices, desires, and needs of the YAYA community and align with its mission.

We are also looking for a group of ministers who would be part of an advisory council that will work with YAYA ministries.  We are looking for ministers who are committed to youth and young adult ministries, deeply care about justice and equity work, and love working with children, youth, young adults and families in a program based and/or camp setting.  We are looking for ministers who can provide pastoral care, spiritual and religious insight, and leadership.  This is a new addition to our YAYA structure.
